Jurisdiction under Dublin II

The Dublin II Regulation determines the EU Member State responsible to examine an application for asylum seekers seeking international protection under the Geneva Convention and the EU Qualification Directive, within the European Union. This regulation was adopted on February 18, 2003 and has been implemented in all EU countries since September 1, 2003. Norway, Iceland and Switzerland have also adopted this regulation.

Eurodac Regulation

The Eurodac Regulation created a European fingerprint comparison database that is used for asylum seekers and people without European residence permits who are over the age of 14. Eurodac has the purpose to make the Dublin II Regulation more efficient. This regulation was adopted on December 11, 2000 and further supplemented by another regulation on February 26, 2002. Since January of 2003 the technical prerequisites are have been in effect.
